Explore guide ↗Records & taxFederal tax basics
Separate a charitable gift from a pickup fee, and understand the paperwork checkpoints.
Explore guide ↗Start hereBuild a living-room donation list
A living room often contains a mix of upholstery, storage, lighting and electronics. List the furniture separately so a reviewer can identify the pieces that need different handling. Do not include a TV simply because its stand is going.
Explore guide ↗Start hereBuild a bedroom donation list
A bedroom set is not one item. The frame, mattress, box spring, dresser, mirror and nightstands may have separate acceptance requirements. Record what belongs together without hiding the individual quantities.
Explore guide ↗Start hereBuild a dining-room donation list
Describe a dining set in components rather than seats alone. A table with leaves, six chairs and a sideboard creates a different request from a table on its own. State whether the set can be considered separately.
Explore guide ↗Start hereBuild a home-office donation list
Separate furniture from equipment and records before making the list. A desk chair, filing cabinet and desk return are different pieces. Keep computers, storage devices and work documents outside the furniture collection scope.
Explore guide ↗Start herePlan an entryway furniture donation
Entry furniture may be narrow, wall-secured or used for hidden storage. Empty a console, shoe cabinet or bench before showing it to a recipient. Describe a paired mirror and its mounting arrangement.
Explore guide ↗Start hereSort guest-room furniture for donation
A rarely used room can still contain incomplete furniture or long-stored items. Check the actual condition before describing it as like new. Separate bedding, bed parts and any objects you intend to keep for guests.
Explore guide ↗Start hereReview basement donation candidates
Check stored belongings where they are without attempting a difficult carry. Describe any moisture, odors or damage honestly. Basement stairs, bulkhead doors and low ceilings are access questions to discuss before transport.
Explore guide ↗Start hereSort a garage donation area
A garage can contain usable furniture alongside fuel, paint, chemicals and tools. Keep those categories separate. A general furniture request does not include hazardous materials or unidentified containers.
Explore guide ↗Start herePlan attic furniture review
Do not carry a bulky item down to photograph it. Record the storage location and the access route, including pull-down stairs or small openings. Long storage does not by itself establish good condition.
Explore guide ↗Start hereReview nursery items before donation
Nursery goods need careful product-specific safety and recall review. Do not assume a recipient accepts a crib or infant product because it accepts other furniture. Keep the model details and ask the organization directly.
Explore guide ↗Start herePlan a laundry-room donation list
List appliances and freestanding storage separately. Explain stacked installations, plumbing and power arrangements. A pickup request does not establish that disconnection or removal from cabinetry is included.
Explore guide ↗Start hereSort a bookcase and its contents
Books and their bookcase can have different recipients. Empty shelves before furniture collection and make manageable book boxes. Do not assume the organization considering the shelves wants every book that was on them.
Explore guide ↗Start hereDescribe a matching bedroom set
Identify each piece in a matching set and explain whether the recipient may take only part of it. Matching style does not mean equal condition, and a dresser mirror may be an attached component rather than another freestanding item.
Explore guide ↗Start hereCombine items from several rooms
Use a single written list when several rooms are involved. Room names help coordination, but the request needs actual item types and quantities. Check the combined list for duplicate entries before sharing it.
Explore guide ↗Start hereLabel what stays and what goes
Clear labels reduce confusion when rooms contain both retained and approved goods. Keep unapproved pieces out of the collection group. Share the final list with everyone who is helping prepare the home.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningDescribe stairs for a pickup review
Describe actual flights, landings and entrance steps rather than writing only “stairs.” Note turns and whether an elevator serves the same route. Let the provider decide what further measurements or photos it needs.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningRecord a narrow doorway
Measure the usable opening without removing doors or moving heavy furniture to test it. Handles, trim and the approach angle may affect the route. Provide the measurements and let the crew assess the method.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningDescribe a tight stair landing
A piece can clear a doorway and still fail to turn on a landing. Describe the landing shape, nearby doors and low ceiling areas. Do not make a fit guarantee from one measurement.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningArrange elevator access
Ask the building manager whether a service elevator or reservation is required. Check where it loads and whether it reaches the collection floor. Share the arrangement with the provider before confirming the date.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningConfirm a loading location
Identify a practical loading location with the building or property contact. Do not assume the nearest curb is available. Describe the distance and obstacles between the item and the proposed vehicle position.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningDiscuss parking restrictions
Share known parking, loading and time restrictions rather than promising a space you cannot reserve. Ask the appropriate property or municipal contact about requirements. The provider should know about unresolved parking questions before booking.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningChoose a building pickup contact
A crew may need someone to provide access or confirm the loading arrangement. Identify the person who will be available and agree how the provider will reach them. Keep entry codes out of public or general planning notes.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningShare building documentation requirements
Some properties request transport-company documentation. Obtain the building’s actual requirements and send them through an agreed channel before booking. Do not assume a general service description satisfies a property manager’s request.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningDescribe a long indoor carry
A long corridor or detached loading point can affect the work even without stairs. Describe the route and approximate distance rather than writing “easy access.” Note doors that require staff assistance.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningChoose an agreed staging location
Do not leave furniture outdoors simply because a pickup is being discussed. Weather can change an item’s condition. Ask where approved goods should wait and keep public paths clear.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningPlan collection from an occupied home
Keep the agreed item list visible and retained belongings clearly separate. Coordinate access with the people who use the home. The provider needs a clear route and an accurate scope rather than an unplanned room clearance.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningPlan access to an unoccupied home
Agree who authorizes and supervises access before the collection date. Arrange entry details directly with the provider through an appropriate channel. Do not put keys or access credentials into general website notes.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningDiscuss a multi-stop donation plan
Different recipients or pickup locations create separate stops. Explain them before requesting a quote and confirm which items belong at each destination. Do not assume another stop is included in a single-address request.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningSeparate your deadline from a pickup request
A preferred date is a request until confirmed. Tell the reviewer when the home must be cleared and distinguish that deadline from your first-choice collection day. Leave a backup plan for goods without a confirmed route.
Explore guide ↗Pickup planningDo a collection-day scope check
Before work starts, compare the goods present with the agreed list. Point out condition or access changes. Obtain agreement on any revised scope rather than adding extra pieces silently.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionDescribe upholstery condition
Show the seating surface, arms, back and any damaged areas. Mention stains, tears, odors and relevant pet or smoke exposure. A blanket or slipcover should not replace a clear description of the underlying item.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionDescribe furniture from a pet household
Tell the recipient about pet exposure and visible wear. Do not use a cleaning promise to conceal odor or damage. Ask about the organization’s own upholstery requirements before transport.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionDiscuss smoke exposure or persistent odors
Describe a persistent odor before arranging a donation. A recipient may assess exposure differently from the owner. Do not assume fragrance or surface cleaning makes the item acceptable.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionIdentify moisture or water damage
Show swelling, staining, damaged backing or other signs of moisture. Describe the known history without guessing whether the problem is resolved. Keep the item out of a general donation batch while the appropriate route is reviewed.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionDisclose a pest concern
Do not put an item with a known or suspected pest concern into a general donation load. Tell the recipient and provider before any collection arrangement. Use an appropriate professional or official resource for treatment and handling questions.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionInventory missing hardware
A missing fastener or connector can prevent reuse. Compare the actual parts with any available instructions and label what is absent. Do not substitute improvised hardware simply to present a complete set.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionDescribe loose or unstable joints
Tell the reviewer where the piece moves or feels unstable. Avoid testing a loaded chair or cabinet to prove it works. Provide an honest description and ask whether the recipient considers repairs.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionReview glass components
Record chips, cracks, loose panels and missing retainers. Do not remove a heavy glass top or damaged panel for a photograph. Ask about the recipient’s acceptance and the provider’s handling requirements.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionReview powered furniture
Identify the model, controller, power supply and known operating faults. Do not attempt electrical repairs or operate a mechanism with a known fault for demonstration. Ask the recipient about this specific product type.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionPrepare a product recall check
Locate the brand, model and other identifiers requested by the official recall notice or manufacturer. Search the actual product rather than a similar-looking photo. Follow the applicable instructions and ask the recipient about unresolved questions.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionReview flat-pack furniture
Show joints, backs, connectors and any damaged panels. Furniture that once assembled successfully may not tolerate another disassembly. Tell the reviewer what is known and let the transport plan determine whether it stays assembled.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionDecide whether to repair before donating
Ask the intended recipient whether it would reconsider the item after the proposed repair. Consider the repair scope before spending money. Do not assume an offer to repair creates an acceptance agreement.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionDescribe condition within a set
One damaged chair can change a matching-set decision. Record condition by piece rather than describing the whole set as good. Explain whether an approved subset can be collected separately.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionDescribe appliance operating history
State what you know about operation and when it was last used. Include error messages, leaks and missing parts. If it has not been tested recently, say so instead of presenting uncertainty as a working guarantee.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionUnderstand a recipient’s final review
Photos and advance conversations support a decision but may not replace inspection. Ask who makes the final call and what happens if the condition differs from the description. Confirm the handling plan for a decline before transport.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionCheck hidden storage before collection
Ottomans, bed bases, sideboards and furniture drawers can contain items that are easy to miss. Check each compartment and remove private belongings. A furniture donation should contain only the goods deliberately included.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionLabel agreed hardware and parts
When disassembly has been agreed, keep fasteners associated with their original component. A single unlabeled bag from several pieces is hard for the recipient to use. Ask how the transporter wants the hardware secured.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionKeep table leaves with the right table
Photograph the leaves and identify which table they fit. Record the number and condition and ask how they should travel. Do not assume the recipient will recognize loose extension panels at delivery.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionMatch cushions to sofa components
Keep each cushion and removable part associated with the correct seat or sectional component. Photograph the complete set before collection. Tell the recipient if any replacement or missing part changes the set.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionKeep shelves and pins together
A cabinet without its supporting pins may not be usable as intended. Record shelf quantities and missing supports. Ask whether removable shelves should be packed separately before taking them out.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionPrepare boxes of books
Use boxes that can be handled appropriately by the people involved and ask the recipient about its book policy. Keep books separate from the bookcase and label contents. Do not mix wet or damaged books into a clean batch.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionPrepare clothing for recipient review
Sort clothing according to the receiving program’s current needs. Keep garments dry and describe the contents and quantity of containers. Donation and textile recycling can be different routes; verify the intended destination.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionPrepare kitchenware as a separate donation
Record the kinds of items rather than writing only miscellaneous. Separate incomplete sets and disclose chipped or damaged pieces. Ask the recipient what it accepts and how fragile goods should be packed.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionKeep lamps and shades matched
Identify shades, fittings and any separate power supply that belong with each lamp. Tell the reviewer about damage or missing parts. Ask how the recipient wants fragile components protected before packing them.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionDescribe framed artwork before packing
List the frame dimensions and identify glass or another glazing material if known. Show damaged corners, loose backing and broken glass. Avoid packing over defects before the recipient has seen a clear description.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionPrepare a rug for an agreed pickup
Ask how the recipient wants the rug presented or packed. Keep it dry, disclose backing damage and identify a separate pad. Do not hide odors, stains or pest concerns inside a roll.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionEmpty appliance contents appropriately
Keep food, laundry, utensils and other personal contents outside the donation scope. Ask for model-specific preparation instructions and agree who handles connections. Emptying the interior does not mean an appliance is ready to disconnect.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionLabel mixed household boxes
A label such as kitchen utensils or folded clothing is more useful than stuff. Avoid combining unrelated fragile, sharp or electrical goods without review. The recipient should understand the contents before accepting the box.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionKeep personal documents out of donations
Check drawers, envelopes, books and storage compartments before collection. Remove records, photographs and identifying labels that are not intended for the recipient. Follow your own appropriate process for retaining or disposing of private documents.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionKeep hazardous materials out of a furniture load
Paint, chemicals, fuels and unidentified containers need separate handling questions. Do not place them in household donation boxes. Use current official local guidance to identify the right route for the actual material.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsAsk a furniture program the right questions
Start with the item list, dimensions and condition rather than asking only whether furniture is accepted. Clarify what the program currently needs and whether it considers your exact pieces. Ask how it confirms a decision before transport.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsReview a reuse-store donation option
A store may have limits on product type, condition, space and receiving arrangements. Ask about the actual goods and delivery plan. Do not assume a store accepts everything in a broad furniture category.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsPlan a private furniture gift
A private recipient can be a reuse option, but it is a different arrangement from a gift to a qualified charity. Agree on the item, condition and collection details. Do not assume a private handoff creates charitable paperwork.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsHandle partial acceptance of a load
Mark each piece as accepted, declined or awaiting review. A yes to the sofa does not automatically cover the rest of the room. Give the transporter the approved list and agree another route for the remaining goods.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsConfirm the donation destination
Ask which organization or recipient is intended to receive the goods and who confirms acceptance. A collection address alone does not explain the final route. Keep the agreed destination associated with the item list.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsCheck whether collection serves your address
A regional organization may not offer collection at every address it serves in other ways. Ask about your actual Wellesley location, the goods and the desired arrangement. Do not infer pickup availability from proximity alone.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsConfirm a donation drop-off arrangement
Check whether advance approval, an appointment or specific receiving hours are required. Confirm the address and who unloads the goods. Do not leave furniture outside a closed facility or before the recipient has agreed.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsRespond to a recipient’s photo request
Send the specific views requested, showing the actual goods and any defects. Exclude private documents, people and identifying household details where possible. Keep the photos associated with a clear item list.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsPlan when a recipient has not replied
No reply is not acceptance. Keep the status pending and avoid booking transport on the assumption that a program will take the goods. Consider another verified recipient or route if a deadline is approaching.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsRespond to changed recipient availability
Ask whether the change affects timing, quantity or acceptance itself. Update the item list and provider before work starts. Do not send goods to the original destination without a current arrangement.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsAsk about collection minimums
A recipient collection program or private transporter may have its own scope requirements. Ask what applies to your actual list and location. Do not add unwanted goods simply to meet an assumed minimum.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsRequest review of an oversized item
Provide the full dimensions and component layout. A broad furniture policy may not address the storage or handling needs of a large wall unit or sectional. Ask for a decision on the actual piece before arranging a carry.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsSeparate recipient and carrier responsibilities
The organization accepting the goods and the company carrying them may be different parties. Clarify who approves the goods, who collects them and who provides each kind of paperwork. Do not assume one party speaks for the other.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsBuild a practical backup route
A backup is useful only when its requirements have been checked. Keep an alternative contact or material-specific route for unplaced goods. Do not promise the same piece to multiple recipients without resolving the arrangements.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsCheck current Wellesley town reuse instructions
The RDF Reusables Area is separate from private pickup and appliance or mattress handling. Consult its current official page for your item before loading a vehicle. A guide on this site does not grant permission to drop off goods.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxOrganize donation photographs
Use a simple item reference so a recipient can match pictures to the list. Keep full views and defect photos together. Avoid including personal details in file names that will be shared.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxKeep one final inventory version
A changing item list can leave people working from different versions. Mark the approved list with a date and identify changes clearly. Keep an earlier copy when it helps explain what was eventually collected.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxRecord the recipient contact
Keep the organization name, appropriate contact channel and the item decision together. Record what was confirmed rather than a general impression from a conversation. Avoid placing private recipient details into public notes.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxKeep the transport scope with the quote
A price without a scope is hard to compare later. Retain the item list, access description and what work was included. Ask about changes before treating an earlier quote as covering extra goods or another stop.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxRecord the actual handoff date
The requested date, collection date and receiving date may be different events. Keep the facts you can verify and distinguish them. Do not fill a record with a planned date as though it already happened.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxRecord what was declined
Keep declined pieces separate from the list of goods actually given to a recipient. Record any alternative route and associated service paperwork. Do not retain the original whole-room list as if everything was donated.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxSeparate a service invoice from a donation record
An invoice documents the transport service and its charges. A recipient acknowledgment concerns the goods it received. Keep both where relevant and do not treat one document as automatically replacing the other.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxAsk about a recipient acknowledgment
Ask the receiving organization what document it provides and when. Give the information it needs through an agreed channel. A moving provider does not automatically issue a charity’s acknowledgment on its behalf.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxOrganize used-value evidence
Keep condition photos and relevant used-sale comparisons together if you are preparing your own valuation evidence. Avoid using a new retail price as an unexplained substitute. Use the valuation guide and a qualified adviser for tax questions.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxRecord matching sets accurately
Describe the pieces actually handed over, including quantities and any missing components. A set name alone may obscure whether six chairs or four were included. Keep the final list consistent with the recipient’s record.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxShare records with the household coordinator
Agree who keeps the final list and relevant documents when several people help. Share only what they need and avoid scattering private information across group messages. The coordinator should understand any unresolved recipient decision.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxReconcile your list after pickup
Compare the approved scope with what actually left the property and what was received where known. Note changes promptly while the details are clear. Ask the relevant provider or recipient to clarify discrepancies.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxKeep sensitive details out of planning notes
Use item descriptions and access observations in the general form notes. Arrange security credentials directly with the provider through an appropriate channel. Do not include account details, private documents or unnecessary information about other people.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxPrepare a collection review pack
Keep the final item list, acceptance information and transport scope together for the person coordinating the day. A concise pack helps resolve questions without searching through unrelated messages. Exclude private records that are not needed for collection.
Explore guide ↗Records & taxClose the loop after a donation
Keep any promised recipient document and confirm unresolved handoff questions with the appropriate party. Record the actual outcome rather than a hoped-for destination. Tax or legal questions belong with a qualified adviser using your records.

Explore guide ↗Pickup planningAccess and collection planning

Explore guide ↗Items & conditionCondition and completeness
Use honest observations and product information to help a recipient review the goods. A completed checklist is preparation, not an acceptance or safety approval.
Explore guide ↗Items & conditionPacking and preparation
Prepare only after the recipient and transporter explain what they need. Keep matching components together and separate private or unsuitable contents before collection.
Explore guide ↗Local optionsRecipients and destination decisions

Practical answers
Before anything leaves your home.
Does selecting an item mean a charity will accept it?
No. The picker creates a review list for Limitless Moving. A recipient still needs to confirm the particular item, its condition and current need. See the condition guide before arranging transport.
What should I photograph?
Take a full view, a close-up of wear and a view of any label or model number. For furniture, show drawers, legs and mechanisms. Keep personal papers and other private details out of the photographs.
How should I count furniture?
List distinct pieces separately: a desk and its chair are two items. Describe modular or sectional components in your notes so the reviewer understands what must be carried. Use the quantity controls for multiple matching items.
What if my item is not listed?
Use the item-details box in the pickup form. Include its name, quantity, dimensions and condition. The team can review unlisted items; listing one does not guarantee acceptance.
Can I leave everything outside?
Agree the staging location first. Keep items clean and dry, preserve safe access and follow the recipient’s instructions. Do not leave items at an organization without permission.
Is pickup free?
This site does not promise free pickup. Ask for the total service charge and any conditions before booking. A charity’s collection arrangements and a private transport service are different options.
What if the recipient declines something?
Clarify this before booking: who makes the acceptance decision, what happens to a declined item and whether additional transport or handling is involved. Do not assume every collected item will become a donation.
Who supplies a charitable acknowledgment?
Ask the actual receiving organization what it will provide for an accepted donation. A private pickup invoice is a separate document. The records and tax guides explain what to check.
